The Happy Hatchlings – A South Bay Mommy & Me Class
One question I’ve been asked a lot lately during maternity sessions is how I’ve found mom communities around the South Bay. Before becoming a mom, I had no idea how I would make new mom friends. Little did I know that I was about to find an amazing community of moms through a South Bay Mommy and Me class! Happy Hatchlings has been the perfect space for my daughter and I to bond and meet other moms (and their babies)!
Happy Hatchlings is a Mommy and Me class local to The South Bay! My daughter and I have attended three full sessions, each session ranging from five to seven weeks in length. The class meets once a week for a little over an hour.
The teacher, Yvonne, is absolutely wonderful! She is so sweet and easy to talk to, and creates a warm and welcoming space for all the moms and babies!
When we started, my daughter was seven months old so we joined the baby group. All of the babies would lay in the middle of the floor, on top of a play mat, with the moms sitting around. Even with her being just seven months old, I noticed she would often imitate other babies, helping her development and socialization!

The baby class also served as a postpartum support group for moms. We talked about various topics, including mental health postpartum, sleep training, and introducing solid foods! It was really nice having a space where I could share and talk about my birth story with other moms that understood what I had just gone through. I cannot overstate how important it is to find friends that you can relate to in this new phase of life!

Once she was ten months old, we moved up to the toddler class, where we attended two full sessions! This class focused on socialization for the toddlers, giving them a head start by learning how to interact with each other. Classes would generally start with the kids playing and singing some songs. The topics in the toddler class were more focused on early education – some of the weekly topics were on bugs, ocean animals and arctic animals!

There was also arts and crafts along with story time during these classes; Yvonne always planned something fun and exciting for the kids! One of my daughter’s favorite activities was playing with the water table, once it was time to play outside. Piper Preschool provides a nice room for the class, with access to an outside closed off play area, which is where we would end each class.

I loved my experience with Happy Hatchlings and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a Mommy and Me class in The South Bay! We met some good friends through it and really appreciated the support aspect of it as well!
