What To Wear At Your Maternity Session
I put this guide together after realizing that the most common question I get asked is: “What do I wear at my maternity session?”. After booking I send a guide that gives tips on what to wear but I wanted to write a few in here as well! There is no “right” or “wrong” way to dress for your maternity session; I wanted to give some insight on some looks I see a lot and that I personally like!
Before getting to the outfits, I wanted to mention a couple of factors that might guide your decision. The first thing to think of is what location you want your maternity session at! It will be so much easier to find an outfit you love when you have a clear image of the backdrop!
If you are stuck between two outfits, I would recommend going with the one that is more comfortable, as your level of physical comfort does come through in photos.
Below are a few themes and ideas for maternity session outfits!

The Jean & Bando Look

This style is really popular right now, and it is basically nice jeans with a bando.
Jeans are such a personal preference; all I can recommend is to be comfortable moving in the jeans you choose and to think if you want your jeans folded down or not. Some jeans are a lot easier to fold down than others so I recommend trying that out before your session.
In addition to, or instead of a bando, you can style this look with a linen shirt or sweater.
If you don’t already have a bando, this is a four pack that is reasonably priced.
If you want to pair it with a linen shirt, here is an example of a blue shirt I love as well as a pink shirt that I love!
If you would like to make it more of the coastal cowboy look, here is a cute cowboy hat with shells on it.

Make it a Little Fancy!
This style would look beautiful in black and white! With that said though if you love wearing colorful outfits then I recommend adding that into your session. The more “you” you can make your outfit for your session the better in my opinion!

Dresses:
Lighter Color Dress:
Whimsical
This style is more playful and fun, while still having an element of the previous style.
Long Dress:
Shorter Dress
Beach Casual

This style is perfect for complimenting a coastal location, with relaxed vibes. You can wear something like a camisole and long skirt or even comfy outfits!
What Should My Partner Wear?
Coordinating outfits is a topic that I get asked about a lot! Here are a few quick tips I like to give my clients!
Try staying within a set color palette; for example, if you are wearing neutral tones, I would recommend your partner to do so as well!
Also try to match vibes with your partner! If you are wearing a fancier dress, have your partner wear something also on the fancier side. The same goes for more casual outfits and vibes.
For maternity sessions at the beach, I recommend not wearing shoes. Being barefoot really adds to the beach vibe! With that said, about half of the male partners say they don’t want to take their shoes off and that’s also completely okay! My husband wore combat boots for our maternity session and we love how the photos turned out!
